A presentation on the recently published book, “The Longest Walk,” the story of the 116th Infantry Regiment of the 29th Infantry Division which landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day June 6, 1944. The regiment’s exploits were featured in the riveting opening scene of the movie “Saving Private Ryan.” This regiment lost one third of the 3200 men who made the
landing that day. The talk will relate the unit’s actions on D-Day and its subsequent hard fought maneuvers to capture St. Lo, France, 40 agonizing days later.
