A presentation on the recently published book, “The Longest Walk,” the story of the 29th Infantry Division which landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day June 6, 1944. The Division’s exploits were featured in the riveting opening scene of the movie “Saving Private Ryan.” This Division lost one third of the 3200 men who died during the landings that day. The talk will relate the unit’s actions on D-Day and its subsequent hard fought maneuvers to capture St. Lo, France, 40 agonizing days later. The Division’s exploits enabled Operation Overlord to succeed leading to the ultimate defeat of Nazi Germany.
