A turning point is a point in a war or campaign where one combatant experiences a reversal in fortune. The combatant losses the initiative, suffers loss of freedom in a theater of war and the opponent assumes the offensive. A key turning point battle in the Pacific Campaign was the battle for the island of Tarawa which enabled the Allies to mount offensive operations to achieve strategic objectives and ultimately attain victory. The presentation will relate all the details about this crucial battle and the lessons learned from this amphibious operation that had an impact on D-Day, 6 June 1944.
